How to Embrace Longevity with a Positive Mindset

Daily writing prompt
What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?

My thoughts on longevity are simple—almost laughably simple.

Do what Dick Van Dyke does. Move. Enjoy life. Don’t overcomplicate it.

I joke that he’s 100 years old—and while that’s clearly my wishful thinking talking, the spirit of the idea still holds. His philosophy never been about obsession. It’s about living. And that’s the version of longevity I believe in.

First: move every day.
Walking, dancing, stretching, exercising—whatever it looks like, don’t stay still. The body is meant to move, and movement keeps both the muscles and the mind alive. It doesn’t have to be extreme. It just has to be consistent.

Second: eat real food.
Stay away from processed junk and fast food whenever possible. Cook at home. Eat things that actually came from the earth. Drink a lot of water. Fuel your body like you want it to last—because you do.

Third—and this is the most important—stay positive.
Think positive thoughts. Meditate if that works for you. Protect your peace. Avoid unnecessary arguments. Stay away from negative people and draining conversations. Choose kindness. Surround yourself with like-minded people who want growth, not chaos.

At 56 years old, I’m already doing many of these things. I eat well. I stay active. And as we enter 2026, my focus is clear: maintaining a positive mindset and distancing myself from negativity.

Because living a long life isn’t just about adding years.
It’s about adding quality to those years.

If I’m lucky enough to live a very long time, I want to do it moving, smiling, creating, and enjoying the people—and the peace—I’ve chosen along the way.
