National Medal of Honor Day

Today, on National Medal of Honor Day, we pause to honor the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and patriotism of the brave service members who have received the Medal of Honor, the United States’ highest military award for valor. Observed each year on March 25, this day was established to foster public appreciation and recognition of Medal of Honor recipients, and the date commemorates the first Medals of Honor presented in 1863.

Their stories remind us that heroism is real, freedom is costly, and service to others is one of the greatest callings of all. On this day, we remember those who went above and beyond the call of duty and express our deepest gratitude to all who have served our nation with honor. The Congressional Medal of Honor Society describes the Medal of Honor as the nation’s highest award for military valor in action.
