Fooled Around and Fell In Love Is Complete — And I’m Ready for the Next Chapter
There’s something so surreal about writing the end of a book.
For months, sometimes longer, these characters live in your head and your heart. They keep you company when you’re making dinner, trying to fall asleep, driving somewhere, or doing anything except sitting still. They become part of your everyday life. And then one day, after all the plotting and second-guessing and rewriting and hoping, you type the final words.
I’m so happy to say that my latest book, Fooled Around and Fell In Love, is complete.
This story means so much to me. Every book I write leaves a mark on me in a different way, but this one felt especially special. It reminded me why I love writing romance so much in the first place. I love the hope in it. I love the vulnerability. I love how love stories can make us believe that, even after disappointment, heartbreak, fear, or bad timing, something beautiful is still possible.
That’s always what I want readers to feel when they finish one of my books: that love really does exist.
Finishing this manuscript feels like a huge personal milestone. Writing a book is emotional work. It asks for patience, trust, and the willingness to keep showing up even on the days when the words don’t come easily. There were moments during this process when I felt energized and inspired, and others when I questioned everything. But I kept going, and now this story is whole. That feeling is hard to describe, but it’s a mix of relief, gratitude, pride, and a little bit of awe.
And now comes the next part of the journey: finding a literary agent.
That step feels exciting, but if I’m being honest, it also feels vulnerable. Querying means taking something you’ve poured your heart into and placing it in someone else’s hands. It means hoping the right person will read your work and see it, not just the plot or the marketability, but the heart behind it. Not just the book, but the writer behind the book, too.
After much thought, I truly believe that QueryManager is the best course of action for me as I begin this process.
There’s something reassuring about having a clear and professional path forward. Querying can feel overwhelming, and anything that helps bring structure and organization to that process is invaluable. QueryManager feels like the smartest next step because it allows me to approach this stage with intention, professionalism, and hope. Instead of feeling scattered, I can focus on finding agents who are genuinely a good fit for my work.
More than anything, I’m looking for the right partnership. I want to find an agent who believes in this story, understands my voice, and shares my vision for the kinds of love stories I want to tell. Someone who sees the emotion, the heart, and the hope woven into my books.
This part of the journey is both exciting and a little scary, but I’m choosing to lean into the excitement.
Right now, I’m allowing myself to celebrate. Finishing Fooled Around and Fell In Love is a big moment for me, and I don’t want to rush past that. This book has my heart, and I’m incredibly proud of it. No matter what happens next, completing it is something worth honoring.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support, encourage, and believe in my writing. It means more than I can ever fully express. Writing can be such a solitary journey, but support makes it feel a little less lonely and a lot more meaningful.
So this is where I am: standing at the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
Fooled Around and Fell In Love is finished. My heart is full. And I’m ready to take the next step.
With gratitude,
Shelly Meyer
